A Woven Perspective

There’s something undeniably chic about an espadrille, especially in summer.

The woven sole, the easy slip-on feel, the way it instantly evokes sun-drenched coastlines and late afternoon aperitivos, it’s the silhouette that quietly comes back around every year, but for Spring/Summer ’26 it’s having a major moment.

WGSN has already called the espadrille as one of the defining styles for the season ahead, and honestly it makes perfect sense. Fashion right now is leaning into pieces that feel effortless yet still polished, it’s relaxed dressing with intention, and the espadrille sits perfectly in that space.

What makes the espadrille so appealing is its versatility. They’re the shoes you reach for when you’re rocking oversized linen and a white tank for a coffee in the city but work just as perfectly styled with a silky midi for rooftop sunset sipping. Easy enough for the day, polished enough for the evening – they’re exactly what we all want from our wardrobes right now.

But this season’s take feels different. Cleaner. Cooler. More elevated. At Ravel, the espadrille gets a modern refresh through rich woven textures and molten metallic finishes – think artisanal craft meets golden-hour glamour. Natural textures are paired with tonal palettes and hues of metallic details creating that perfect contrast between laid-back and luxe.

Texture is playing a huge role in the SS26 edit. Braided details and handcrafted touches bring warmth and personality to the simplest of looks, with the modern take stopping everything feeling too traditionally bohemian. The result? Styles that feel fresh, modern and a little more fashion-forward.

Ravel Kennley Espardille Wedge Sandals

Let’s not forget it’s a classic and while the espadrille has obvious nostalgic appeal, this season’s silhouettes feel far more refined. Wedges are sleeker, flats feel more minimal and overall styling leans less beachy cliché and more understated luxury (see below image). It’s giving European summer energy, but in a way that still feels wearable back home.

So, consider this your sign to lean into those woven textures, because this season the espadrille isn’t just a hot trend piece -it’s the main character…

basically, the shoe of the summer.

Ravel SS26: A Summer State of Mind, Styled Your Way

If summer had a wardrobe mood board, Ravel SS26 would be pinned all over it. Sun-drenched but sharp. Relaxed but intentional. It’s the kind of collection that feels equally at home beneath towering palms as it does navigating sunlit city streets.  The sweet spot where precision meets effortlessness and where you look like you didn’t try too hard but absolutely nailed it.

This is footwear for the modern muse. The girl who’s always slightly ahead of the trend cycle. Who mixes texture with tone, polish with ease. Who can move from rooftop drinks to a coastal weekend without switching her vibe completely.

Let’s talk about how to wear it… the Ravel way:

1. The Power Pairing: Matching Heels & Bag Duos

Co-ords aren’t just for clothing anymore. Ravel’s matching heel-and-bag pairings are the styling shortcut SS26 needed. Clean. Intentional. Put-together in seconds.

How the Ravel girls are wearing them:

  • Co-ord with a Co-ord; grab your favourite sleek two piece and let the accessories do the talking.
  • With oversized tailoring and bare skin; think slouchy blazer, minimal top, long-line shorts.
  • With a silk midi and undone hair for that “I just threw this on” energy.

It’s giving main character. But understated.

2. Tonal Loafers: The New Neutral

Loafers are officially back and Ravel’s butter-soft leathers and rich suedes make them feel anything but corporate. Sculptural lines keep things clean, while tonal shades (sand, stone, espresso) tap straight into SS26’s love for head-to-toe neutrals.

Tonal dressing continues to dominate the style agenda, and Ravel’s loafers anchor the look perfectly.

Style them like this:

  • With relaxed tailored shorts and barely there socks for that Scandi-street-style moment.
  • With wide-leg trousers and a fitted tank — minimal, strong, effortless.
  • With an all-cream outfit for quiet luxury energy.

Ravel’s loafer’s ground the look without ever dulling it.

3. Statement Sculpted Heels: After-Dark Energy

Sculptural heels are the heartbeat of SS26. Architectural. Directional. Confident. They’re less about sparkle, more about shape. Think clean lines, bold curves, tactile finishes channelling the shadows of towering palms.

How to wear them now:

  • Keep silhouettes loose and playful, so the shoe brings all the structure.
  • With a sharp black mini and slicked-back hair.
  • Echo the sculptural form through bold jewellery or a structured mini bag.

They don’t just have to be “occasion heels.” They’re everyday icons, just styled with intention.

4. Elevated Espadrilles & Earthy Flats: Soft Power

Textural contrast is everything this season. Woven espadrilles. Rich suede flats. Gladiator-inspired silhouettes that feel refined, not festival.

The palette? Sun-warmed clay, sandy neutrals, vibrant brights that echo coastal skies at dusk.

Wear them like this:

  • With an undone mini dress; strip it back to basics.
  • With linen tailoring for a polished but breathable city look.
  • With relaxed denim and a crisp white shirt –  always a classic.

It’s soft, but strong. Easy, but elevated.

5. Dark Silhouettes: The Summer Plot Twist

While SS26 embraces brights and sun-baked tones, darker silhouettes bring balance and drama. Think deep espresso suedes, inky leathers, luxurious finishes to give that extra bite that feels sleek rather than boho.

Cool girl rule: contrast is key.

  • Pair dark sandals with light tailoring.
  • Wear them with sheer layers for understated evening impact.
  • Keep jewellery sculptural and minimal, let texture and form speak.

It’s the balance between grounded and striking, and Ravel’s collection nails it.

The SS26 Mood: Why It Works

Ravel SS26 understands the assignment. Trend-driven but timeless, butter-soft leathers shaped into sculptural forms and rich suedes adding depth and tactility. It’s all about those refined silhouettes that transition from day to dusk without missing a single step in a palette that reflects coastal sands and vibrant brights, capturing that fleeting golden-hour glow.

This season’s focus isn’t over-styling. It’s about thoughtful choices.

  • Tonal layering
  • Textural contrast
  • Letting shape and material do the heavy lifting

Ravel SS26 isn’t just a collection.
It’s a summer state of mind.

Confident. Effortless. Slightly undone.

Exactly how summer should feel…

AW25 with Ravel: Boots, Buckles n’ Bits & British Country Cool

There’s something in the air this season, a shift in pace, a pull towards grounding textures, contrasting silhouettes and pieces that feel intentional. Ravel’s AW25 collection is your shortcut to mastering the season’s aesthetic – think countryside charm, rugged sophistication and the kind of boots that do it all.

We’re talking supple leathers, soft suedes and a rich palette of autumnal tones; burnt sienna, deep forest green, oat milk beige and the kind of moody browns that make layering look luxe. Chef’s kiss. These aren’t your throwaway trend tones, they’re building block shades that’ll anchor your whole autumn wardrobe. This is seasonal styling turned all the way up in an unmistakable air of English country charm.

This Season’s Sole Obsession: The Boot

This season, it’s obviously all about the boot. She’s an instant icon.

From autumnal walks and pumpkin spice to city nights, our chunky silhouettes to sleek knee-highs with just the right amount of sass, are the pieces that will elevate any outfit you throw at them.

Detail-oriented Drama

Design details are doing the heavy lifting this season; zipper accents for subtle edge, horse-bit fastenings that scream “equestrian cool” (without trying too hard) and wraparound buckles that bring structure and style. Bold but versatile and meant to be worn on repeat.

How we’re styling AW25

This isn’t your standard fall fashion. AW25 styling is all about contrast. Romantic yet grounded, nostalgic but fresh, polish and play…

Buckle-Up Energy: Channel off-duty British it-girl energy with a chunky buckled boot and a layered midi skirt and a slouchy cable-knit. Layer up with a checkered jacket casually thrown over the shoulders, add a beanie for full countryside impact. Finish with a leather cross body and a fresh face, it’s all about effortless city cool.

Ravel Storr Boots

Power Dressing 2.0: Go full seasonal girl boss. Take knee-high leather boots styled under a sharp-shouldered sweeping trench. Bonus points for layering over a mesh dress or a tailored trouser, it’s all about unexpected layering this season. Structured, stylish and gives big main character energy.

Ravel Bywell Knee-High Boots

The Layered Romantic: For the girls leaning into softness, ankle boots in rich tan meet floaty layers. Play with drape and texture, create tension between delicate and grounded.

Ravel Bray Ankle Boots

The Equestrian Edge: Take the equestrian aesthetic up a notch by styling detailed boots with a co-ord or even a high-waisted wide trouser, a crisp shirt and an oversized jacket. English countryside? Very much reimagined.

Ravel Ancroft Mid-Calf Boots

Sheer Play: Innocent flowy silhouettes are having their moment. Style a soft suede ankle boot & a midi with movement. Timeless and undeniably chic.

Ravel Louth Boots

From edgy urbanites to countryside romantics, there’s a Ravel boot for everyone this season. Let’s be real; good boots make an outfit. AW25 is a visual play of strength and softness, exactly what this season demands. Think “Kate Moss in the Cotswolds” meets “street style star Kendall Jenner on the city run”.

So, whether you’re styling mesh layers or anchoring your tailored moment, the AW25 collection is your new seasonal staple. Layered, statement-led and always with the perfect boot.

Celebrating Diwali with Culture and Style

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is a vibrant occasion with family traditions, joyous gatherings, and profound cultural significance. More than just a date on the calendar, it is a feeling – a collective sense of new beginnings. At its heart, Diwali symbolises the victory of light over darkness and good over evil, a time to invite prosperity and blessings into our homes.

As homes across the globe light up with the warm glow of diyas (oil lamps)and the air fills with the scent of delicious sweets, the tradition of wearing new clothes beautifully reflects the festival’s spirit. From rich colours to shimmering embellishments, every element of Diwali fashion tells a story of light, prosperity, and happiness. This guide will walk you through the key traditions and style tips to help you shine bright this Diwali.

What is Diwali?

The Meaning Behind the Colours

Dressing for Diwali: The Canvas for Personal Expression

The Finishing Touch: Shoes That Dazzle

What is Diwali?

Diwali is one of the most widely celebrated holidays in India and around the world. The festival’s date is determined by the lunar calendar, which is why it varies each year; the main day of celebrations falls on Monday, October 20th in 2025.

The name “Diwali” is derived from the Sanskrit word Deepavali, meaning “rows of lighted lamps.” These lamps, or diyas, symbolise the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. It’s a time for homes to be cleaned and lovingly decorated, with the air filling with excitement as neighbourhoods glow with lamps and fireworks illuminate the sky.

The Meaning Behind the Colours

In Indian culture, colours are deeply symbolic, and the traditional Diwali palette is chosen for its promising meanings.  The specific colours chosen may vary by region and personal preferences, but they all contribute to the festive and joyous atmosphere of the celebration.

Understanding these colours adds a deeper layer of significance to the clothing worn.

  • Gold & Yellow: These are the quintessential colours of Diwali. Gold, with its metallic lustre, represents wealth, prosperity, and the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi. Yellow, the colour of marigolds and sunshine, symbolises knowledge, happiness, and optimism.
  • Red & Orange: Bold and vibrant, red signifies power, good fortune, and love. It’s a timeless choice for festive occasions. Orange, often seen in the flame of a diya, represents purity, spirituality, and warmth.
  • Green: The colour of nature and new beginnings, green is perfect for a festival that marks a fresh start. It represents growth, harmony, and renewal.
  • Pink: Associated with happiness and the joy of celebration.

While these traditional hues remain popular, modern Diwali fashion has embraced a wider spectrum of colours, including sophisticated emerald greens, royal blues, and even classic black, often chosen as a canvas to make glittering embellishments stand out.

Dressing for Diwali: The Canvas for Personal Expression

Dressing for Diwali is more than simply choosing what to wear; it is a beautiful canvas for personal expression rooted in centuries of tradition. The outfits you choose are a vibrant reflection of the light and positivity you wish to welcome into your life, with every colour and embellishment holding a deeper meaning.

Bold shades of red and gold are timeless favourites, symbolising love, strength, and prosperity, while softer greens and tranquil blues create an elegant balance that reflects renewal, peace, and harmony. The colours not only brighten the celebration but also carry forward the festival’s message of joy and togetherness. It’s a time for everyone to wear their nicest clothes, with a long-running tradition being matching outfits, where parents and children, and sometimes entire families, coordinate their looks to celebrate the holiday.

For women, classic options include elegant lehengas – ankle-length skirts that come in a wide array of colours and patterns – or beautiful sarees. For men, stylish kurta pajamas and silk sherwanis in bright, festive colours are perfect for the occasion.

No matter the outfit, the hallmark of Diwali dressing is the use of luxurious fabrics and glittering details that catch the light of the fireworks and diyas. Look for garments made from silk, velvet, or brocade, and then add the sparkle. Sequins, beadwork, and intricate embroidery are essential for creating that festive glow.

The Finishing Touch: Shoes That Dazzle

For a festival that involves visiting family and friends, dancing, and celebrating long into the night, your footwear needs to be both stylish and comfortable. The right pair of shoes can complete your look and give you the confidence to shine.

For an outfit that’s rich in colour or detail, a metallic shoe is the perfect complement. It adds a touch of glamour without overpowering your ensemble.

For those who want to make a true style statement, consider a heel that’s as vibrant as the festival itself. The Ravel Mallow heeled pump features a dazzling upper embellished with sparkly gold gems. Set on a kitten heel and finished with a classic pointed toe, this sling-back pump is the perfect way to add a touch of shine to your festive look.

Symbolic Colours: There is meaning behind traditional Diwali colours, including gold and yellow for prosperity, red for good fortune, and green for new beginnings.

Espadrilles

Espadrilles are that classic summer sandal that never goes out of style. Characterised by their woven soles, they come in flat and wedge styles and are comfortable and lightweight, ideal for summer dressing.

They pair perfectly with long, flowing summer skirts and dresses, denim shorts, and wide-legged trousers when you want to add a touch of summer sun and sophistication to your look. Espadrilles come in a selection of colours to perfectly suit your style.

Platform wedge sandals

Pink Forres open toe wedge sandals

Platform wedge sandals are an excellent choice for those looking for height from their sandals without compromising comfort. Whilst classic wedge sandals are flatter under the forefoot with a sole that thickens gradually towards the back of the sandal, platform wedges have a thicker, more uniform sole that doesn’t have as much of a difference in height from the toe to the heel, offering a more comfortable, even stride.

Platform wedges pair stylishly with mini-dresses, jumpsuits, playsuits, and wide-leg trousers for a statement-making style.

Our Pink Forres open-toe wedge sandals (pictured) are the perfect platform sandals to help you step into summer, styling perfectly with maxi dresses alongside all of the wardrobe staples we’ve already mentioned. Prepare to make them your go-to summer sandals!

Mule wedge sandals

Is there a summer sandal more sophisticated than a mule?

A core summer staple, mule wedge sandals are essential for an effortlessly chic summer style.

Whether you’re looking for a wedge sandal to pair with relaxed linen trousers for stylish off-duty dressing, for elevating a sophisticated pencil skirt or flowy a-line skirt for the office, or pairing with a slip dress for an understated yet stylish look, mule wedge sandals tick all of the boxes.

Mules also pair perfectly with your favourite jeans. Pair with straight-legged jeans and a plain white T-shirt for a modern take on a classic look; you could even roll up the cuffs of your jeans to show off your stylish new sandals. Flared jeans also pair perfectly with these stylish summer sandals.

Black Suede Morley Wedge Mules Sandals

Our Black Suede Morley Wedge Mule Sandals (pictured) are the ideal pair of mule wedge sandals if you’re a purveyor of classic style staples. The classic black suede upper is a comfortable, stylish choice, particularly if you’re looking for a versatile summer sandal that looks just as good in the office as it does when you’re sipping cocktails by the pool.

How to wear summer wedges

We’ve touched on it already when decoding summer wedge style. But the great thing about summer wedges is they style effortlessly with anything! Here are some chic examples of how to style yours this summer;

1. Casual style

Wedge sandals can help elevate even the most casual looks if you’re jet-setting to somewhere exotic this summer.

Espadrilles are the ideal go-to here for classic casual style. Pair with denim shorts by day or tailored shorts in the evening with a loose-fitting cotton top for a chic yet cool summer look. They also pair perfectly with skater-style summer skirts and cute summer dresses, giving you the most versatile sandal pairing for your casual summer holiday wardrobe.

    Ravel recommends:

    2. Maxi-Dresses

A maxi dress is a casual yet elegant summer staple, and wedge sandals can help to perfectly complement the look. Whether you’re looking for a comfortable platform wedge sandal for strolling the streets on your next city break, or a mule wedge sandal to add some extra sophistication to an evening look, maxi dresses and wedge sandals are a summer match made in heaven!

Top Tip: Choose a maxi dress in a neutral shade and pair it with a bold, bright summer wedge to add a welcome pop of colour. Or pair a colourful, patterned maxi dress with neutral wedge sandals to balance your outfit.

      Ravel recommends:

      3. Tailored looks

There’s no reason why you can’t step into the office embracing summer style. Wedge sandals are ideal if you want to elevate your summer office attire. Pairing your tailored trousers, whether straight or flared, with wedge sandals helps to add height and a sophisticated look to your office style.

Choose a wedge with an ankle strap if you’re looking for a chic pairing to your fitted skirt, or a mule to add a modern twist to your tailored trousers. Finish the look with a crisp blouse for perfect power dressing.

        Ravel recommends:

        4. Jumpsuits and playsuits

Wedge sandals perfectly complement jumpsuits and playsuits. Giving a leg-lengthening effect, your jumpsuit or playsuit can be dressed up or down depending on the style of the wedge and the occasion you’re dressing for this summer.

Top tip: Choose a pair with metallic straps if you want a neutral wedge sandal that you can wear beyond your jumpsuit outfit but still offer a dressy summer feel. Choose a wedge sandal with a higher heel and an ankle strap for the perfect playsuit pairing!

Top takeaways for wearing wedge sandals

          So now you know how to style your summer wedges with multiple outfits in your wardrobe, here are some final tips on getting the most out of yours this summer;

          • Consider the occasion; for long hours spent on feet, choose a lower wedge heel that’s more comfortable and save your party platform wedge sandals for cocktail hour!
          • Show off your pedicure! If your wedge sandals have a peep toe, then stay on top of your pedicure and take the opportunity to show it off!

Before even considering footwear, it’s worth thinking about some of the unique aspects of summer weddings and how they may impact your footwear choice.

Due to the slightly more predictable weather, summer weddings can occur in many different locations, such as stunning outdoor gardens, on golden beaches or inside a fabulous marquee (an ideal option for a UK summer wedding, when the weather could easily take a turn!). And with the arrival of the summer sun, you’ll want to choose some wedding guest shoes that are lighter and brighter to complement the warmer weather.

With all of these factors, it’s important to opt for shoes that not only complement your outfit but also the venue and the location. In this next section, we’re offering our top recommendations for shoes suited to different wedding locations and styles to help you find the perfect pair ahead of the big day!

Summer wedding guest shoe style guide

                    Here are some of our favourite wedding guest shoe styles worthy of any summer soiree;

                    1. Elegant heeled sandals

Heeled sandals are a true special occasion core footwear staple and perfect for a dressier summer wedding. With so many styles available, from delicate styles to platforms, the great news is that whatever the venue or location, you will find some elegant heeled sandals at Ravel.

Blue floral shoes hanging from. door handle

Unsure which style to choose? Other than ensuring your sandal of choice perfectly complements your outfit, you may want to consider other factors, such as the location and the practicality of your shoes.

Whilst block heels are a better choice than delicate ones if most of the day will be spent outside on the grass (you don’t want to spend the day dealing with sunken heels!), delicate, strappy heels are a better choice for more formal affairs.

Consider the surface and the heel height you’ll be most comfortable with before committing to your choice. Oh, and book yourself in for a pedicure before the big day!

                    2. Classic courts

Classic court shoes aren’t just a great investment for a summer wedding; they transcend trends with timeless sophistication. If you like to invest in core footwear staples, a classic court shoe could be your wedding guest shoe of choice and a fitting option for future special occasions.

For summer dressing, opt for lighter colours. A neutral court shoe can help provide balance if your outfit is patterned or bold. Similarly, a patterned or floral shoe can add a statement pop to an otherwise neutral or block-coloured outfit.

Whether you opt for a pointed or almond toe, summer calls for stylish details such as slingback straps to enhance breathability. Or, if you prefer just a classic standard court, why not choose an option with a matching bag to further accessorise your look and pull it together stylishly?

                    3. Modern mule sandals

Mules are a popular sandal in 2025, and if you’re attending an evening wedding party, an outdoor wedding celebration, or the wedding sees you spending the day on the beach, mule wedge sandals could be your ideal wedding guest shoe.

Fashionable, effortless, easy to wear, and stylish in warmer weather, they help elevate any outfit. If you’re coveting relaxed but stylish summer wedding guest footwear, choose a mule with metallic straps, like our Gold Leather Troon Wedge Mule Sandals, to add a sophisticated sparkle to your outfit.

Post-wedding, your mule sandals will also be an effortlessly chic summer shoe for your next summer holiday.

                    4. Dressy flats

If you’re not a natural heel wearer, there’s nothing wrong with embracing flats for your summer wedding guest shoes – if the venue and the dress code allow it.

Silver flat leather shoes against a read velvet background

Flats can be elegant, so whether you opt for embellished flat sandals, such as White Leather Polmont Flat Mule Sandals or you choose our exquisite Silver Ellon Ballerina Shoes you’ll still be completing your wedding guest outfit in style! The ideal choice for outdoor venues – choose accessories that complement the embellishments on your sandals, or the hue of your flats, for a chic and polished finish.

                    5. Wedge Sandals

woman in a corset, silk skirt and wedge sandals poses in an antique wooden mirror. Mahogany wooden walls are the backdrop

Wedge sandals are perfect for summer weddings, particularly when most of your time is spent outdoors. A stable choice on soft ground, the versatile nature of wedge sandals means that whatever the tone of the occasion, whether it’s a relaxed summer wedding or a more formal affair, you’ll find wedge sandals suited to your style and the occasion.

For more casual celebrations, or weddings on the beach, espadrilles are an ideal choice. Lightweight and comfortable, choose from neutral styles or a colour pop to enhance your wedding attire. Or, for a more formal celebration, why not choose our Rose Gold Leather Belby Open-Toe Wedge Sandals? Whilst the rose gold leather upper adds a dressy finish, the beautiful woven rope detailed wedge gives the shoe a relaxed summer feel – perfect for pairing with summer outfits long after the ‘I do’s’.

Can a guest wear white shoes to a wedding?

Women wears corset top and floaty skirt. She has her foot up on a ledge and is showing off her white cowboy boots

Although white shoes are maybe an obvious choice for a wedding, if you’re the guest, you may want to consider choosing a different colour!

Whilst there’s no definite rule against wearing white, traditionally, white should be reserved for the bride, and in wearing white shoes, there’s a concern that you may, as the guest, be shifting focus away from the bride.

Although many weddings today don’t conform to traditional rules, it’s better to err on the side of caution with this one, choosing an alternative shoe colour instead.

If you’re dead set on white footwear, avoid pure white, as this should be reserved for the bride. If in doubt and you know the bride well enough, it’s also polite to ask first, to avoid upsetting her on her big day.

Key takeaways when choosing your shoes

                    Here are some final tips to consider before choosing your wedding guest shoes;

                    1. Put comfort above everything else; whilst looking good in your wedding guest attire is important, you’ll probably be on your feet for a long time, so choosing shoes you’ll be comfortable in is essential.
                    2. Consider the location. Will you be standing on uneven terrain or grass? Wider heels will be a safer bet. Choose your shoes wisely based on the venue and its formality.
                    3. Look for breathable materials; leather and canvas are great choices, allowing your feet to breathe in the summer heat.
                    4. Check the dress code; does the invite suggest formality? Always check your invite before choosing your shoes.

It’s race season – and if you’re heading to your first ever race meet, choosing the perfect outfit can be stressful!

From adhering to the race dress code to choosing the most stylish and comfortable shoes for the occasion, there are many things to consider before your first race day experience.

At Ravel, we love race day dressing! So, in this blog, we’re offering all of our best advice and tips on how to dress for the races, including the dress code of each big race meet in the UK and the best shoes for the occasion.

Dressing for the races is an event in itself! Race meetings are social events requiring a considered approach when it comes to your attire, combining elegance, tradition and your own personal style.

The first thing you should address before choosing an outfit is whether or not the race meet has a dress code. While some race meets are quite relaxed, others, such as Royal Ascot, have enclosures where meeting the dress code is essential. Once you know what’s expected of you and the etiquette of the event, you’ll find planning your outfit much easier.

Your race day outfit should be harmonious, with every element complementing the last. You should consider this when choosing your race day shoes, but you must also consider comfort and practicality, as you could be on your feet for most of the day.

                    Race day dress codes:

Although not mutually exclusive, we’ve pulled together the dates and dress code details of some of the most popular race meets to help you decide on your outfit.

The Betfred Derby Festival (June 6th-7th, 2025)

More commonly known as the Epsom Derby, the Epsom Festival is heralded as one of the most colourful fixtures of the race calendar.

The dress code for this race festival is ‘dress to feel your best’, so while you should expect that some people will be dressed formally, there aren’t many rules around what you can and can’t wear. Team sports attire is not permitted, and if you’re planning on wearing fancy dress, please ensure it’s not inappropriate or offensive..

The Queen Elizabeth II stand and attached hospitality area does have a dress code, so if you’re heading there, you must wear a formal day dress or tailored trouser suit with a hat or fascinator, so choose shoes that complement these looks accordingly.

                    Royal Ascot (June 17th – 21st, 2025)

One of the most prestigious, traditional race meets, Royal Ascot, is known for offering the best in style. Associated with elegance and excellence, it’s important to check each of the enclosure’s strict dress codes before attending to make sure your outfit ticks all of the boxes.

What is the dress code for the Ascot races?

The dress code for each of the enclosures differs depending on which you’re attending, but there are some key takeaways:

                    Royal Enclosure

                    • Dresses and skirts must fall just above the knee or longer. Jumpsuits must fall below the knee or longer.
                    • Any shoulder straps must be a minimum width of one inch (2.5 cm).
                    • Jackets and pashminas can be worn, but tops and dresses must still comply.
                    • Trouser suits must be of matching colours and materials.
                    • A hat, headpiece or hatinator must be worn. The latter must have a minimum base diameter of four inches (10 cm).

                    Queen Anne Enclosure

                    • The dress code is slightly more relaxed yet still formal.
                    • Outfits should include a dress or top and skirt with shoulder or halter neck straps (lace and chiffon are allowed, and there is no minimum length requirement).
                    • Trouser suits should match in colour and material. Jumpsuits should fall below the knee.
                    • A hat, headpiece or fascinator must be worn.

                    Village Enclosure

                    • Smart but less formal.
                    • The same rules apply as in the Queen Anne Enclosure.

                    Windsor Enclosure

                    • Relaxed but smart daywear and headwear are encouraged.

                    (Glorious) Goodwood Festival (29th July – 2nd August, 2025)

With a relaxed and chic summer atmosphere, Glorious Goodwood celebrates quintessentially British style.

What is the dress code for the Goodwood races?

When choosing your outfit, think classic summer styling, the clothing you would choose for a summer garden party, such as floaty florals or an elegant top and trousers combination. While hats and fascinators aren’t essential, wear them if they complement your look.

Key race dates to look out for in 2026:

Choosing ladies’ shoes for the races

Choosing the correct race day shoes is crucial for your style and comfort, particularly as you’ll probably be spending hours on your feet.

                    Here are our top shoe picks for various race scenarios;

                    1. A stylish, unsinkable block heel
A woman wearing a playsuit with block sandals

A block heel is the gold standard for height without sinking if your race day is spent on the grass. An ideal choice that combines elegance and practicality, whether you choose a low-block heel or a party platform. If heels are for you, there’s no better way to elevate your look!

For ’70s-inspired fashion, choose our Gold Metallic Ornsay Heeled Sandals and curate a boho chic look. Or if you prefer a lower block heel, our Metallic Silver Leather Callie Ankle Strap Sandals are the perfect race day shoes; tailor-made for occasion dressing post-race meet.

Finally, our classic Tan & Gold Rewley Block-Heeled Platform Sandals are finished with chic gold detailing. They are perfect for holiday dressing but look great with both playsuits, tailored classics, and long, flowing dresses on race day.

                    1. The graceful wedge
A pair of platform wedge sandals place on the rug on a wooden floor, product shot

A clear race day winner, much like a block-heeled shoe or sandal, a wedge sandal offers all the height of a heel with added stability, perfect for time spent outdoors.

Espadrilles are a stellar choice for race day, if you’re looking for a combination of comfort, style and sophistication. Easy to wear and style, they’re exceptionally versatile, and the perfect choice for both formal and relaxed settings, therefore suitable for most race day meets. For the most formal option, our Black Suede Vista Espadrille Wedge Sandals, offer a well-made, luxurious finish.

Or, for something slightly more sophisticated, our Rose Gold Leather Childers Wedge Sandals and our Dusky Pink Suede Kelty Open-Toe Wedge Sandals seamlessly marry summer with sophistication.

                    1. The polished court shoe

For more formal enclosures, when a sleek, timeless look is essential, court shoes offer a classic elegance that stands the test of time. At Ravel, we offer an exceptional collection of classic court shoes perfect for race day and other special occasions beyond the event. Whether you choose a pointed or almond toe for the meet, you’re guaranteed sophistication with every step. Looking for accessories to complete the look? Browse our matching bags for the ideal pairing with your court shoes.

From our classic Pale Gold Edson heeled pumps to our summery chic Blue Floral Kavan Slingback Court Shoes and our statement White Patent Dalry Slingback Courts, whatever your style preference, you’re guaranteed elegance with these amazing options. Just take extra care when crossing the grass!

                    1. A strategic choice – the dressy flat
Gold flat slip on shoes against a multi coloured rug

Although flats might not be an obvious go-to race shoe, a dressy option can be your secret weapon for all-day comfort! If you’re not usually a heel-wearer or race day involves navigating extensive grounds, a beautifully embellished or classically stylish flat can be the ideal solution.

Our chic flats are ideal for tailored jumpsuits, matching trouser suits and similar classic looks. Opt for our Gold Ellon Ballerina Shoes if you’re looking for an exquisite pairing to a chic summer skirt or dress, or opt for our Gold Leather Lanton Flat Shoes and Rose Gold Leather Anston Crochet Loafers for a sophisticated finish to your tailored staples.

Get race day ready with our top takeaways

                    So now you know what to expect on race day and the shoes best suited to your outfit (and the event), here are our top takeaways to ensure comfort and style on race day;

                    • Check the weather forecast, take more layers for the rain and cold, and opt for closed-in shoes instead of open-toed sandals if there’s any chance of rain.
                    • Mind the grass; if you know you’ll be navigating grassy terrain all day, opt for block heels and wedges over stiletto heels that could sink in the grass.
                    • For the chicest race day outfit, make sure your entire look, everything from your hat or fascinator to your shoes for the races, feels balanced, complementary and intentional.

However, in 2025, is the tradition of pairing your shoes with your handbag somewhat outdated?

With the rise of fashion trends, including the ‘Old Money Aesthetic’, which encourages traditional, classic dressing and ‘The Sandwich Rule’, matching the top and bottom outfit with a contrasting shade or texture in the centre. It seems the opportunities to wear matching shoes and a clutch bag are destined to grow.

Kavan Slingback Court Shoes and matching Alston Pale Gold Clutch Bag

Choosing a single colour or hue to make your outfit magically monochromatic is a really simple way to make shoes and a matching clutch bag work effortlessly without needing to give your look too much thought.

If you’re unsure where to start, choose a matching set in a neutral colour that will pair easily with most things in your wardrobe for those days when you might want to wear your shoes without the matching clutch.

Rich creams, gold or ballet pink, are all classic shades that work well with this trend if you want to embrace a timeless, flawless, old-money-inspired look. Or, for a statement style, why not choose a rich cherry or emerald tones for a bold, fashion-forward look?

                    1. Pattern matching
Woman wears blue dress and matching floral bag and shoes

Blue Floral Holms Ankle-Strap Sandals and matching Blue Floral Ardee Clutch Bag

Add personality and a pop of colourful energy to an outfit with perfectly matched patterned shoes and a clutch. A cool, white summer dress or a formal monochrome classic is an ideal backdrop for a playful pattern, such as classic floral heels with a matching clutch bag.

Unsure of the shade of dress to choose? Take inspiration from your patterned accessories and choose a single shade that creates a perfect base to help your accessories pop!

Don’t restrict your pattern choice to simple florals, either. Polka dots, cute hearts or animal prints offer a modern take on this traditional style.

                    1. Texture twinning

If you’re shopping for your shoes and clutch bag separately, it’s important to consider textures; otherwise, even if the colour match is perfect, your overall look could appear messy and mismatched.

For best results, aim for textures that perfectly match or carefully complement each other, for example, pairing smooth, metallic shoes with a matching metallic clutch or a sequinned bag with glitter heels to complement the shimmer. After all, the devil is in the details!

                    1. The Sandwich Rule

‘The Sandwich Rule’ or ‘Sandwich Dressing’ is ideal for modernising your matching accessory style, extending your colour pairing techniques beyond just your accessories.

’The Sandwich Rule’ is a styling technique that involves matching the top and bottom of your outfit but adding a contrasting piece in the middle to create balance and proportion in a ‘sandwich effect’.

For example, pairing the colour of your matching shoes and handbag with your jacket (the bread) but wearing a skirt or wide-legged trousers in a contrasting shade (the filing) to bring cohesion to your look would be a great example of sandwich dressing.

Play around with the sandwich rule with classic, key pieces in your wardrobe, and you’ll find numerous stylish ways to work your matching clutch bag and shoes into your everyday outfits.

                    1. Familiarity in formality

Pink Floral Edson Court Shoes and matching Pink Floral Ardee Clutch Bag

If you really want your clutch bag and shoes to match, but you’re not as confident playing around with style, then formal events, such as weddings and summer balls, are the perfect places to match your accessories without worrying about having an outdated style.

If you’re unsure how to build your outfit around your accessories, choose a neutral outfit, such as a little black dress or a classic navy jumpsuit, as the base of your outfit and allow your accessories to do the talking!

Your matching accessories will tie your look together, giving it a more sophisticated finish!

                    Why choose navy shoes

Navy shoes are the epitome of stylish dressing. A classic, timeless colour that’s always in style, navy footwear can be a sophisticated choice for any formal or relaxed setting.

A softer, less harsh alternative to black, navy is surprisingly easy to style. Pairing beautifully with several colours and shades, including white, beige, grey, and even other shades of blue, navy footwear works beautifully with lighter shades where black footwear may be too severe a contrast.

Choose navy shoes to maintain a polished look, whatever the occasion.

                    The colour wheel

If you’re unsure which colours to pair with your navy footwear, utilising a colour wheel can help you get started.

Navy and other shades of blue sit between indigo and aqua on the colour wheel. These are known as analogous colours, and when used together, they create harmony and a seamless flow that’s easy on the eye.

Colours that sit together on the colour wheel often share a common hue but vary slightly in saturation. Many analogous colours are often seen together in nature, blending perfectly and creating a harmonious flow.

With this in mind, navy tends to pair well with its neighbours, aqua and indigo, and this is a great place to start when putting together an outfit.

In contrast, pairing colours opposite on the colour wheel can also make for a winning combination. These are known as complementary colours. When combined, each hue is amplified to create a stylish statement.

Warmer-toned shades such as burnt orange and mustard, sitting opposite shades of blue on the colour wheel, pair beautifully with navy’s cooler tones to create a vibrant yet harmonious ensemble.

Of course, it’s important to remember that colour theory is just a guide. Other factors need to be considered, such as skin tone and the shades of the colours you’re pairing together. Still, the colour wheel can be a great starting point if you’re unsure which colours work well.

Things to avoid when wearing navy

We’ve already established the versatility of navy footwear, making them a staple you’ll keep returning to for all your sophisticated looks.

However, there are a few things to avoid when wearing navy footwear to get the most out of your outfits:

                    • Don’t overcomplicate your outfits with too many colours. If you don’t want a colour clash, use your knowledge of navy colour theory to mix and match colours with stylish results. Remember, colour theory is just a guide, so be brave with shades, but don’t overdo it!
                    • Don’t ignore the tone of your navy shoes. Some navy shoes may be warmer than others, which could impact what you wear them with. For example, we know that navy and mustard work well together, but you may need to adjust your shades slightly if, when worn together, your shoes feel like they clash with your outfit.
                    • Don’t overcomplicate with too many accessories – particularly if pairing your navy shoes with bold colours. Sometimes, it’s better to let your outfit do the talking.
                    • It’s hard to avoid looking nautical when pairing together navy and white. If nautical isn’t the look you’re going for, stay away from stripes and instead opt for geometric or floral prints.
